Stone Breakers: Family

A Ugandan woman swings a sledge hammer at a pile of rocks while a baby sleeps peacefully on her back.

I will proclaim the name of the Lord; how glorious is our God!
He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair.
He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!

Deuteronomy 32:3-4

I am not exactly sure why we are so drawn to the Stone Breakers. Is it their dedication to their hard work, their home, their families? There has got to be easier ways to crush rock! But other methods would mean critical jobs are lost, family support is non-existent, school fees won’t get paid… Somehow the Lord has made a way for these families to exist in this type of work environment. Everything God does is just and fair, He is faithful and does no wrong, He is just and upright. There is no mistake for these amazing people to be here at this place at this time.

In some of our US schools we have take your child to work day. But with the Stone Breakers and many other occupations in Northern Uganda, every day is take your child to work day. Maybe that is one of the unseen beauties of a family working together. It will not be long and this precious child will work alongside her mom. We pray for their safety, health and provision as they diligently press forward each and every day. We will continue to love on these people and proclaim the name of the Lord, for He is our Rock.
