The Good Lyfe

Embarking on a Journey with new friends

On our recent Journey with the Bold Ventures team, we visited a few of the many islands on Lake Victoria (Africa’s largest lake). We got a glimpse into the life of those serving on over 100 of these Islands. We were blessed to be among these pastors and servants of the Lord. Watching and hearing their testimonies, struggles and victories was a true blessing. Especially their laughter and enjoyment of the life the Lord has given them. We could easily see the commitment and hard work it takes to bring training and meaningful relationships to these Island pastors and missionaries.

Where Bible stories come to life

The obvious part is, many of the Island people are fishermen. Their lives revolve around this lake, and all it provides for them. Their fishing boats dot the shore lines, and fishermen are busy mending or preparing their nets for the next day’s work. The Bible stories of Peter, Andrew, James and John come to life here. These boats are not only used for fishing, but for transport to other islands, the mainland, medical needs, food, and supplies.

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”

James 3:13

A commitment to the islands

Some Islands are quite large, some quite small, some inhabited, some vacant. The constant thing we observed was the joy of those serving, with a commitment to bring the Gospel to those living there. We try to imagine living a life of serving on one of the islands, and soon declaring the Gospel has been preached to everyone! The steadfast love of Jesus, will not let them rest until each one is saved, set free and healed.

It can be a tough life, but also a Good Lyfe… with deeds done in humility and wisdom.
